Ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne connu sous le nom \u201c<em>d\u2019amplification polaire<\/em>\u201d est un des nombreux signes r\u00e9v\u00e9lateurs de l\u2019alt\u00e9ration du climat. Dans certaines r\u00e9gions, des augmentations de 2-3 \u00baC ont \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9es en seulement 30 ans. Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/berkeleyearth.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Berkeley Earth<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\r\n<figcaption><\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<!-- \/wp:image -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>La fonte saisonni\u00e8re de la toundra est connue pour activer le m\u00e9tabolisme des microorganismes du <strong>perg\u00e9lisol<\/strong> qui participent \u00e0 l\u2019augmentation de la production biologique de m\u00e9thane et de CO2. <em>Mais ce n\u2019est pas tout\u2026<\/em> En plus des \u00e9missions biologiques, la hausse des temp\u00e9ratures entraine la lib\u00e9ration de m\u00e9thane pi\u00e9g\u00e9 dans et sous le <strong>perg\u00e9lisol<\/strong>: mais \u00e9galement dans le <strong>perg\u00e9lisol<\/strong> sous-marin \u00e0 l\u2019est de la Sib\u00e9rie, sur le plateau c\u00f4tier le plus long et le moins profond du monde.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Tout cela contribue \u00e0 amplifier le r\u00e9chauffement de la r\u00e9gion, d&rsquo;autant que la fonte des glaces et la perte de neige assombrissent l&rsquo;Arctique et r\u00e9duisent l&rsquo;effet d&rsquo;alb\u00e9do, augmentant ainsi l&rsquo;absorption de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie solaire par le sol et la temp\u00e9rature de l&rsquo;air. En cons\u00e9quence, le r\u00e9chauffement de l&rsquo;Arctique bat record sur record. La remont\u00e9e des eaux profondes favorise la remont\u00e9e du m\u00e9thane, mais apporte \u00e9galement des nutriments \u00e0 la surface qui stimulent la photosynth\u00e8se et la consommation de CO2 par rapport aux eaux libres moins productives.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p><strong>Avec le r\u00e9chauffement global, certains gagnent pendant que d\u2019autres perdent.<\/strong> L&rsquo;oc\u00e9an ne fait pas exception \u00e0 la r\u00e8gle. La hausse des temp\u00e9ratures dans l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an Arctique, dans des zones telles que la mer de B\u00e9ring et, plus au nord, la mer des Tchouktches, prolonge les conditions favorables au d\u00e9veloppement du phytoplancton. Le premier incident document\u00e9 remonte \u00e0 1799 avec la mort de 100 chasseurs qui avaient mang\u00e9 des moules pr\u00e8s de Sitka, en Alaska. En 2010, deux autres personnes sont mortes en Alaska apr\u00e8s avoir mang\u00e9 des coquillages ramass\u00e9s directement sur le rivage.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Les coquillages certifi\u00e9s font l&rsquo;objet d&rsquo;un contr\u00f4le strict de la part des autorit\u00e9s et peuvent \u00eatre consomm\u00e9s sans danger. Mais les coquillages et les crabes r\u00e9colt\u00e9s par des particuliers dans le cadre de la p\u00eache r\u00e9cr\u00e9ative ou traditionnelle constituent une menace bien r\u00e9elle. <strong>Les biotoxines s&rsquo;accumulent le long de la cha\u00eene alimentaire marine.<\/strong> Une \u00e9tude r\u00e9cente sur les mammif\u00e8res \u00e9chou\u00e9s et captur\u00e9s en Alaska a d\u00e9tect\u00e9 des saxitoxines dans 10 des 13 esp\u00e8ces analys\u00e9es (baleines, phoques, marsouins, etc.), y compris celles consomm\u00e9es par les populations locales. Un \u00e9chantillonnage approfondi du fond a confirm\u00e9 la pr\u00e9sence de jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 17 000 kystes\/cm dans les 3 cm sup\u00e9rieurs de s\u00e9diments. En extrapolant les donn\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;ensemble de l&rsquo;Arctique, le tapis de kystes en Alaska serait gigantesque &#8211; <em>le plus grand au monde \u00e0 ce jour <\/em>&#8211;<\/p>\r\n<p>L&rsquo;accumulation de kystes proviendrait de populations se d\u00e9veloppant plus au sud et arrivant au nord par les courants traversant le d\u00e9troit de B\u00e9ring. Jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 il y a une vingtaine d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es, les temp\u00e9ratures des eaux de fond \u00e9taient probablement trop basses pour permettre une germination significative. Mais les kystes peuvent survivre pendant des d\u00e9cennies (voire jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 un si\u00e8cle) dans l&rsquo;attente de conditions favorables.
